Cockfighting is the most popular sport in the Philippines.  It has an international reputation as a cruel sport, but the fight itself is a decidedly boring and blood-free spectacle.  The most entertaining part is watching the extremely complex manner in which the spectators place bets with each other.  That alone is enough to justify a visit, should you ever have an opportunity.  I asked one spectator if he would watch cockfighting if he couldn't place bets.  'Nahhh,' he said without a moments pause, 'that'd be boring.'
