Beautiful landscapes, Giant Buddhas, thousands of shrines, great food, bullet trains, an outdoor vending machine to ATM ratio of 238:1, toilets that challenge your dexterity, tiny hotel rooms, ubiquitous sex bars, taxi drivers wearing white gloves, Uncle Tupelo and Tokyo Bob Dylan--Japan had it all, and most of it was REALLY expensive.
